DISTRICT 23 Our Area is in District 23 of Zonta International. At the 50th International Convention in Dallas in 1990, our Club began a new life as a member of a new District - District 23, which comprises the Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. It was formerly District XVI with New Zealand. It was in the mid 1960's that DOROTHY THOMPSON of Toronto in Canada, organised twelve clubs in what became District XVI. We were fortunate to welcome Dorothy to our Charter Dinner in April 1979, and maintained regular correspondence with her, until her death in September 1998, at the age of 103. Currently, there are 36 Clubs in our District; we keep in touch through our Annual District Directory and our Quarterly District Governor's Newsletter. A DISTRICT CONFERENCE is held every two years, to determine policy and elect officers for the next Biennium. Our responsibilities to the District are to: AREA 4 For operational purposes, each District is divided into Areas. We belong to Area 4, which has seven clubs spread over a wide geographical area. Representation - We are represented on the District Board by our Area Director who keeps in touch through her Newsletter, and provides training in Zonta knowledge and Club management through the Area Workshop. Clubs in our Area:- Albury-Wodonga, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Kyneton, Melton, Wangaratta Our Responsibilities to our Area:- We are required to: Area Workshop

Ballarat and District Ballarat is the gateway to much of the best Victoria has to offer, including the picturesque Goldfields and Pyrenees regions, and the Great Southern Touring Route comprising Ballarat, the Grampians and the Great Ocean Road. The region was home to one of the world's greatest quests for gold in the 1850's, and Ballarat became Australia's largest inland city. Ballarat is rich in history and culture, represented at the world renowned Sovereign Hill and the recently opened Eureka Stockade Centre. It still boasts the wide tree-lined streets, spectacular gardens and the grand architectural allure of the Victorian era. Situated 110km north west of Melbourne, Ballarat a fantastic destination for a day trip, short break or longer stay. Below, we have provided a link to other sites of interest in the Ballarat area. Feel free to browse through them to gain a better knowledge of our great part of Australia. |
