OCTOBER
This is OUR BIRTHDAY MONTH, in celebration of our Charter Charter on United Nations Day, October 24. It is a time for us to welcome Zontians past and present, prospective members, and visiting Zontians from other clubs in our Area.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we put the finishing touches to Zonta Breast Cushions destined for local hospitals to help patients in the recuperative period following breast surgery.
NOVEMBER
White Ribbon Day is recognised on November 25th - a local event as part of an international day when men the world over wear a white ribbon as a sign that they say “NO” to violence against women.
JANUARY
We celebrate AMELIA EARHART DAY (January 11).
Clubs in our immediate Areas hold special events in memory of the famous aviatrix, who was herself a member of Zonta.
FEBRUARY
This is a busy month preparing for International Women’s Day celebrations in March, and finalising our contribution to a special publication in collaboration with The Courier, entitled Woman, which is released on or close to IWD.
MARCH
Each year we celebrate INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY with a Dinner on or near March 8, with a high-profile speaker and outstanding entertainment. Since 2008 we have partnered with Women’s Health Grampians in organising the Dinner, and assisted them in welcoming new honorees nominated by their peers as being “Amongst Ballarat’s Finest”.
APRIL
At our Annual Meeting, we vote for our Office-Bearers and Directors for the coming year.
MAY
We celebrate with our Changeover Dinner, acknowledging the efforts of our leaders during the past 12 months and welcoming the new team.
Our calendar varies from year to year, and we also enjoy a range of social activities in response to the expressed interests of individual members. In addition to our own Club events, we receive invitations to events run by other clubs throughout Victoria. Several members have attended International Conventions in the ‘even’ years, with opportunities to meet women who share their occupations or their passions, worldwide.
