OUR ORGANISATION


ZONTA was born at the end of World War I, on the 8th November 1919, in Buffalo in New York State, in the United States of America.

ZONTA is a Sioux Indian word meaning “Honest and Trustworthy”.

ZONTA INTERNATIONAL is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.

Latest figures show that there are over 30,000 members in 1,215 clubs in 67 countries and geographic areas.

MEMBERSHIP is by invitation only.  Until the late 1980’s an organization for women, it is now also open to men.

DIVERSITY OF CLASSIFICATIONS  Each club has members actively engaged in a variety of classifications, the minimum number of which should equal one-fourth of the total membership of the club.

THE OBJECTS OF ZONTA

a) to improve the legal, political,
economic, educational, health and
professional status of women

b) to work for the advancement of
understanding, goodwill, and peace
through a world fellowship of
executives in business and the
professions

c) to promote justice and universal
respect for human rights and
fundamental freedoms

d) to be united internationally,
to foster high ethical standards,
to implement service programs, and
to provide mutual support and
fellowship for members who serve
their communities, their nations,
and the world.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP

Eligible for membership are
executives and professionals or
others in a decision-making capacity
willing to support and implement the
Objects of Zonta International.

Membership candidates should be
sought among community leaders in
a variety of activities.

At Club option, men are eligible for
Membership.

To be invited to membership, a
candidate shall be actively engaged
or have experience in a recognized
business or profession in a decision-
making capacity.
