This is our anniversary month, in celebration of our Charter on United Nations Day, 24 October 1978. It is a time for us to welcome Zontians past and present, prospective members, and visiting Zontians from other clubs in our Area.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we traditionally hold a major working bee to put the finishing touches to Zonta Breast Cushions destined for local hospitals to help patients in the recuperative period following breast surgery.
White Ribbon Day is recognised on 25 November - a local event as part of an international day when men the world over wear a white ribbon as a sign that they say “NO” to violence against women. Our Club is represented on the Ballarat White Ribbon Day Committee.
We celebrate Amelia Earhart Day (11 January). Clubs in our immediate Areas hold special events in memory of the famous aviatrix, who was herself a member of Zonta.
This is a busy month preparing for our function to celebrate new Honourees on the roll of Ballarat's Great Women and marking International Women’s Day.
Each year we mark International Women's Day on 8 March. In 2008 we partnered with Women’s Health Grampians in organising a Dinner, welcoming new honourees nominated by their peers as being “Amongst Ballarat’s Finest”. These honourees became the first names on the roll of Ballarat's Great Women and we seek further women to honour each March..
At our Annual Meeting, we vote for our Office Bearers and Directors for the coming year.
We celebrate with our Changeover Dinner, acknowledging the efforts of our leaders during the past 12 months and welcoming the new team.
Our calendar varies from year to year, and we also enjoy a range of social activities in response to the expressed interests of individual members. In addition to our own Club events, we receive invitations to events run by other clubs throughout Victoria. Several members have attended International Conventions in the ‘even’ years, with opportunities to meet women who share their occupations or their passions, worldwide.
