THE VAL SARAH BURSARY FUND – books for Primary School students
The $1000 Val Sarah Bursary Fund was set up in the 2018/2019 year as an Endowment Fund. Its purpose? to enable an annual donation of 4 x $25 book vouchers to needy Students, gender not specified, selected by the Principal and Staff of local Primary Schools.
In November each year, our President and Board research and nominate different schools to receive the vouchers, which are forwarded to each Principal in a timely manner for the chosen Students to select their books for the next school year.
The Zonta Club of Ballarat was chartered on United Nations Day, October 24, in 1978, with Val as its Charter President. For over 40 years the Club has been engaged in service and advocacy globally and in our local community. Val, who served as International President 1998-2000, says: “the major issues affecting women and girls, and their families remain constant – health, education, personal safety, financial security and environmental sustainability. Increasingly our work is focused on supporting young people and the Bursary is a modest means of providing educational support to our primary students.”
